We got several new posters on our recent trip to New York, and rather than let them get crumpled and ruined as is our wont, we actually took them up to the frame store.
We laid them out all professional on the carpeted counter, and then we started putting matte corners and frames around them, like we knew what we were doing. The guy helping us clearly thought we had the worst taste ever, because he kept surreptitiously taking mattes away from us and sliding new frame corners onto our pile.
But we were having fun, so we didn't care. Originally we were trying to match the matting and frames of two of the posters (so we could hang them on either side of the fireplace) but then we decided not to limit ourselves and just do what was right for each poster.
But frame helping guy didn't feel we had gone far enough, and when we asked him what he thought of our work, he kind of sighed and said, "It looks like you tried to match them, and failed."
In the end we came to a compromise that made us all happy. Especially frame guy, because triple matting meant $$$ for his commission.
